We are getting very excited about the various types of tomatoes to grow. We want Heirloom Tomatoes / Heritage Tomatoes that are Open-Pollinated. We want to achieve plants that we can grow on to establish lovely fruits for exciting food, in both flavour terms and display terms.

We also want to harvest some seeds for the following years.

So why do we want Heirloom / Heritage varieties?

Well the main reasoning is that we love the idea of food that has a long history, passed down through many generations, naturally produced without deliberate modification and modern tweaking by humans through large corporations. Well, perhaps everything has been influenced over the years and it is likely that evolution and adaptation has enabled plants to change, however it just feels more naturally to enable this to be carried out in a more natural and slower way.

We also love the concept to growing plants where we can harvest seeds for following years as well as enjoy the plant and its offerings in the current year. Whereas F1 seeds may produce different plants to expectations if their seeds are used.

We simply love making food more exciting than what is often offered in mainstream supermarkets in the UK. Exciting could mean tomatoes with perceived unusual colours like yellow, orange, purple, black, brown or a mix. It could also mean the flavours are exciting with a mix of sweetness and citrus bitterness, making a much more complex flavour. When adding complex flavours to salads with diverse lettuce leaves a simple meal can be absolutely amazing, bring a simple platter of food to life. Exciting could also mean different shapes and sizes, performing different roles on the plate.

As we explore more Heirloom Tomatoes seeds / Heritage Tomato seeds we will write more about our findings.
